Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

The Health, Safety and Environmental Manager is responsible for creating, planning, and directing the safety training production employees. This position is also responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees.

Responsibilities/ Principal Duties:

  • Develop and maintain safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures, to manage all HSE compliance and risks applicable to the facility.
  • Analyze training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings and workshops.
  • Lead a safety team that will perform periodic safety inspections of equipment and the facility to identify any unsafe workplace conditions.
  • Partner with the maintenance department to ensure safety items are addressed through work orders.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to find cause and take measures to prevent future incidents.
  • Work with Human Resources on Worker's Compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident.
  • Keep up-to-date on OSHA compliance in regards to silica testing and compliance.
  • Conduct contractor safety orientation and new hire safety orientation.
  • Oversees the inventory and ordering of safety equipment, PPE and other safety related items.
  • Maintain SWIPP (Storm Water Prevention Program), file DMR’s and other reports as required by DEQ.
  • Maintain all required OSHA written programs and documentation.
  • Oversee required annual testing (pulmonary fit testing, audiograms) of employees.
  • Conducts risk assessments on company activities to identify potential risks and gaps in our safety systems.
  • Develop Emergency Response plans, ensuring drills are conducted and corrective actions are identified and implemented.
  • Other duties as required to assure that Pearce Foundry and Machine Works is within compliance of all applicable health and safety laws and regulations.

  • Proficient in risk management and health/safety management
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines
  • Extensive attention to detail to distinguish safety hazards
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures
  • Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Handles multiple tasks with excellence, sets priorities, gets results
  • Good organizational, leadership and motivational skills
  • Ability to recognize when safety conditions need improvement
  • Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
  • Must be knowledgeable of safety and environmental regulations including but not limited to: air, wastewater, storm water, solid and hazardous waste regulations
  • Personal computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint for development of spread sheets to track safety records and the development of safety trainings.

Education: Associate Degree (Bachelor’s preferred)

Experience: Five years’ experience in training and safety management in a manufacturing environment, preferably in manufacturing

Physical / Cognitive Requirements: Some work is performed in a non-climate controlled manufacturing environment.
