What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Cloud FinOps position at Pearson?
In the Cloud FinOps Director role you will lead a foundational team producing consumable Cloud Financial Management solutions. Our team develops innovative solutions to promote effective management of Pearson’s resources without impacting service quality. You will be a key contributor to our organizational brand as we deliver these services globally across Pearson’s lines of business. We are a customer-focused team continuously improving our services to meet the needs of our customers and reduce toil on our teams.
In this role, you can expect to:
Be the subject matter expert in all Cloud FinOps aspects of public cloud services
- Educate and enable engineering teams so that they can deliver cost-efficient features
- Evangelize cost-related trends, themes, and best practices with engineering, architecture, product, and leadership teams
- Understand and communicate billing, forecasting, and budgeting best practices
- Analyze spend trends, identify opportunities for savings and provide advisory services for improvement recommendations
- Work closely with the Finance team on reporting and spend forecasts
- Establish and drive the multi-cloud FinOps strategy
- Drive vendor negotiations around EDP, Private Pricing Agreements and other discount programs
- Participate in the cloud governance counsel including creating FinOps standards and policies
- Develop and deliver business cases that pull together the costs, expected savings, and benefits of making changes to optimize and establish goals and metrics which create the basis for action
- Partner with the engineering teams to define, implement, and drive best practices in Infrastructure Economics, FinOps, and associated technologies
- Provide weekly, monthly, and annual reports to support the business as needed and help with the team’s continuous improvement
- Provide executive-level summaries and details for the Cloud Financial Management Strategy
- Communicate, establish, and measure KPIs to track progress and success of transformations and optimizations
- Respond to ad hoc data query requests from business units with timely, accurate, and reliable data presented in an easy-to-understand fashion.
- Configure, manage, and drive cloud cost optimization strategies, tools, financial reporting and analytics dashboards, and business intelligence tools.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity.
- Lead the team to automate manual data gathering, inputs, calculations, and general toil reduction for all reporting datasets and connectors.
Skills :
- Strong leadership and management skills including experience building and leading high-performing teams
- Experience managing executive stakeholders, building relationships, influencing others, and partnering cross-functionally
- Experience extracting and analyzing complex datasets
- Demonstrated public cloud knowledge and experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experienced in account management and/or technical client-facing support (2 years)
- Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Aptitude for synthesizing complex data into key components that drive informed decisions
- Deep passion for cloud technology and ability to articulate the cloud value proposition in both technical and financial aspects
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts
- Persistent, tenacious and able to navigate challenging customer situations constantly finding opportunities to drive customer value
- Must be an exceptional collaborator, have strong attention to detail, and be a passionate voice for the experience of our customers (both internally and externally)
- Able to work independently and respond rapidly in a fast-changing business environment
Qualifications :
You should have a minimum of 5 years of experience with information technology, experience with FinOps/Infrastructure/Cloud Economics/Optimization, and experience with some but not necessarily all the following:
- 5 years of experience in a technical or business background in cloud technologies/ IT infrastructure
- 5 years team management experience
- Knowledge of and ideally experience with the emerging Cloud FinOps model
- Experience with cloud services, especially as it pertains to cloud costs, value, and economics.
- Strong experience applying cost management and rate reduction tactics at scale (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot, Right-Sizing, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to bridge finance and technology
- Experience with AWS, Azure & GCP cloud technologies
- FinOps certification is a plus
- Attitude and aptitude for continually learning new things
- Experience with Confluence, Jira, Sharepoint, Microsoft Teams
