About the team and role
Reporting to the VP Controls Centre of Excellence, the Director, Controls and compliance is responsible for supporting the overall SOX annual requirements for the organization. SOX is a significant regulatory requirement, and the role will lead control improvement projects and be a main contact for external auditors, Process Owners, Control Owners, and key stakeholders. The role will require timely resolution of issues and coordination across the team to ensure the SOX program is optimized and effective. This role does not have direct reports but the successful applicant will have support/resources in other members of the team.
Based on a hybrid working model this role can be based in Hoboken (New Jersey - US), North Carolina (US) or London (UK)
Further responsibilities include:
- Assist in the execution of improvements to our overall SOX program and overall internal control environment through the SOX compliance efforts and special projects.
- partner with Finance and Business leaders across the organization, as well as internal & external auditors to support SOX Compliance across the organization
- Serve a critical Project Manager role to ensure all deliverables and control improvements are in place timely. Lead the creation or revision of any project management tools.
- Integrate newly acquired businesses under the Corporate SOX program if applicable.
- Coordinate efforts between Internal Audit, External Audit, and business process owners, including alignment walkthroughs and testing.
- Work very close with the ITGC CoE to drive improvements in both the efficiency and effectiveness of the Company’s SOX program.
- Work closely with the VP, Controls Center of Excellence, and internal stakeholders to drive SOX scoping and risk assessments.
- Conduct a small amount of SOX testing as needed to support the team.
- Facilitate the remediation of identified control deficiencies, including working with business process owners on both immediate and long-term solutions.
- Deliver timely and concise communication including developing and producing management reporting illustrating SOX status, trends, and remediation of deficiencies.
- Educate business process owners by leading training sessions to demonstrate compliance requirements and share hot topics in SOX compliance.
About You
- Ideally 5 years direct or indirect experience with Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls.
- You’ll have a firm grasp of financial reporting and SOX requirements and methodologies (risk assessment, controls design, testing strategies, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of process flow mapping, design and documentation of business process and general information technology controls, controls testing, evaluation of control deficiencies, and remediation plans.
- Direct experience with PCAOB standards, SOX requirements, and controls framework desired.
- An ability to think critically through complex problems and prioritize projects in a fast-paced environment
- An ability to influence across stakeholder groups to ensure we have appropriate focus on control initiatives.
