What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Editor position at Pearson?
The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson offers dynamic teacher licensing and performance assessment solutions. Our custom teacher licensure testing programs are 100 percent aligned to state standards. We provide a wide variety of teacher licensure testing services such as test development, administration, and scoring. We work in a collaborative environment and are passionate about education. This role is based in the United States.
Production Editors write and edit content for websites, online platforms, and online publications. These editors are responsible for producing and maintaining content and have oversight in the correction of content. The production editor is assigned to multiple projects at one time.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as production lead for several programs. Attend regular cross-team program meetings and propose, make, and QC revisions to program materials as needed.
- Copyedit material for grammar, punctuation, syntax and established styles.
- Write new copy and edit existing copy to improve readability and web-based delivery, with end user and client in mind.
- QC, review, and approve materials submitted by technical staff, IT, and 3rd party vendors.
- Collaborate with editors, authors, and stakeholders on content development.
- Create and maintain production schedules and tracking logs. Manage deadlines.
- Collaborate with others to define processes, and create and update documentation accordingly.
Required Experience:
- Minimum one to two years’ experience in professional copyediting and proofreading required, online publication experience preferred. Familiarity with widely used style guides and manuals a plus.
- Some experience in a production-oriented environment preferred.
- Experience in creating accessible materials adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, in English, Education, or Journalism preferred. A major in Language Arts or courses in grammar and composition preferred.

- Excellent verbal and written skills required
- Computer literate, skilled in web-based applications including Microsoft O365 apps, including Teams
- Must work well independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, multiple-deadline atmosphere
- Attention to detail and accuracy a must
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $50,000 - $55,000.
