With the retirement of long-serving City Attorney Damien Brower, the City of Brentwood Council seeks an exceptional, experienced attorney with demonstrated expertise in municipal law. Brentwood is located 55 miles east of San Francisco in Eastern Contra Costa County and sits astride two regions, the San Francisco Bay Area and the Northern San Joaquin Valley. Having experienced rapid population growth since the early 1990s, the well-planned growth of Brentwood took the population of 3,500 to nearly 64,500 residents today. With over 255 acres of parkland, 103 parks including community, neighborhood, pocket parks and facilities, an aquatic center, senior center, and over 20 miles of beautiful multi-use trails, Brentwood provides outstanding recreational opportunities to support healthy lifestyles. The City Council seeks a generalist practicing attorney with a strong working knowledge of California law who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate understands the importance of equally sharing legal advice and opinions with the City Council while patiently bringing Council members up to speed on complex legal issues. The ideal candidate is an open and transparent collaborator and demonstrates a willingness to develop positive working relationships with the City Council, the City Manager, and the executive team, and presents a calm demeanor while developing and maintaining cohesive working relationships.
