Our Client

Our client is a real estate private equity firm committed to creating lasting social impact through investments in affordable housing. They are an active, long-term owner accustomed to rolling up their sleeves, reinvesting in capital improvements, and improving communities across the U.S. Their current portfolio of four funds includes multiple properties valued at over US$450M and is growing! The Opportunity

This is a rare and unique Controller role with a fast-paced, dynamic, and growing real estate private equity firm centrally located in downtown Vancouver (though a hybrid model does apply)! Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be hands-on with the internal and external financial reporting and be responsible for all aspects of the firm’s fund operations. You will be the liaison with various service providers, including the third-party fund administrators, and oversee/review the accounting of the property management teams. You will also support various internal initiatives while working closely with the asset management teams. To succeed, you must have exceptional time management & organizational skills, and of course a good attitude!

Key Responsibilities

-Financial reporting: fund reporting for investors and debt compliance

-Manage the fund operations, including GL accounting, annual audits, and maintaining receivables and payables for the funds

-Communicate and liaison with third-party service providers

-Act as a financial support mechanism for the acquisitions team, including managing construction audits and providing information for financial due diligence

-Prepare quarterly management fees, capital fees, and distributions

-Reviewing monthly property reporting packages and preparation of construction draw packages

Education/Experience

-CPA designation

-5 years of experience of relevant accounting experience, preference for big four accounting &/or in-house fund firm

-Experienced in fund accounting and investment reporting

-University degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting, and/or related field

-Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a rapidly changing environment

-Excellent communication skills and ability to report complex information in a concise and easy to understand manner
