Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Mentor to join our team. As a Peer Mentor, you will provide guidance and support to individuals facing mental health challenges, addiction, or behavioral health issues. Your role will involve utilizing your own personal experiences to inspire and motivate others on their journey towards recovery and wellness.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model and provide peer support to individuals in need
- Conduct one-on-one mentoring sessions with clients to offer guidance and encouragement
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and skills for managing their mental health or addiction
- Facilitate group sessions to promote peer connection and mutual support
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop individualized care plans for clients
- Utilize crisis intervention techniques when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of clients
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client progress and interactions
Qualifications:
- Lived experience with mental health challenges, addiction, or behavioral health issues
- Strong knowledge of crisis management, mentoring, social work systems, and mental health counseling
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques to help clients explore their goals and aspirations
- Ability to provide empathetic support while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in crisis intervention strategies
- Certification or degree in addiction counseling or behavioral health is preferred but not required
