Summary:

The Infection Control Nurse is both responsible for surveillance, control, and prevention of infections System wide. The Infection Control Coordinator also serves as a mentor and resource for the Infection Control Nurse and oversees the program system-wide.
Responsibilities:

Conducts ongoing nosocomial infection surveillance and other infection control related surveillance in all units of the Princeton HealthCare System. Accurately identifies infection control problems and facilitates appropriate actions as necessary. Under the direction of the Infection Control Coordinator, the nurse participates in conducting epidemiologic investigations according to public health and CDC standards. Monitors significant epidemiologic events and facilitates appropriate actions to prevent transmission. Utilizes the communicable disease reporting system and the NHSN to complete mandatory reporting. Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department; collaborates with other caregivers/staff, within and outside the Department, to proactively prevent infection and enhance patient care and service. Maintains standards of confidentiality. Demonstrates professional growth which may include membership in APIC, certification, and continuing education. Keeps up-to-date on current issues in infection control and assists in facilitating Princeton HealthCare System compliance with state and federal standards.
