JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Hospitality Servivces is searching for a full time Utility Worker to join their team. Duties include:

  • Operate various types of scrubbing and shampooing equipment such as carpet shampooing machine, vacuum, wet-dry pick-up machine, etc., and hand tools, as required
  • Sweep, scrub, mop, and shampoo various types of floors and floor coverings and furniture
  • Remove, replace incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and starters, shades and covers (all from permanent fixtures), venetian and roller blinds, window screens, wall hangings, curtains and drapes, etc.
  • Remove accumulated waste and debris from buildings, as required
  • Remove, move and/or relocate furniture, equipment, televisions, supplies, etc.
  • Unload incoming materials and move to storage locations
  • Wash windows, wall sections, floor to ceiling, ceilings, venetian and roller blinds, light fixtures, window screens, lawn furniture, trash cabs (utilizing steam cleaner), etc.
  • Assist in set-up and clean-up of chairs, tables, stages, platforms, lecterns, etc., for banquets, conferences, and other scheduled events
  • Remove debris from walks and driveways; rake and remove leaves; pick up paper and other debris
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor
  • Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials on walks and driveways adjacent to the Nittany Lion Inn
  • Tour halls periodically to ensure everything is in order; check that outside doors are locked, etc.; report any unusual conditions to supervisor
  • Assist in unpacking and storage and distribution of cleaning material supplies and new equipment
  • Maintain necessary inventory of cleaning materials
  • Open doors; turn on coffee urn, steam lines, etc., in preparation for morning cooks
  • Gather, bundle soiled linen and take to basement for pick up; obtain clean linen from laundry truck and deliver to main linen room; distribute linen to linen room

Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Up to 3 months of effective experience.

This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 8 and has a starting hourly wage of $15.89.
