- Position Description
The Secondary Education Teacher at Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center (WSDJSC) prepares students, ages 10-20, for meaningful lives by contributing to their educational and social development in a detention setting.
Under the supervision of the WSDJSC Commander or Designee, the Teacher needs to be proficient in reading and implementing the IEP system. The Teacher establishes and adjusts course outlines and objectives, assesses student learning, documents students results and progress, communicates with RCAS and other education providers regarding students IEP's, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the students' experience while detained at WSDJSC.
The School Year at WSDJSC follows the calendar published by the Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS). Teachers are required to work 2 weeks in the summer for summer school. Teachers will receive the Pennington County Employee Benefits.
This Part-Time position will be staffed at 30 hours per week.- Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree in Education
Experience: Preference given to candidates with one year or more of experience teaching students in a juvenile detention or similar facility.
License / Certification: Must qualify for SD Certification/License prior to employment. Must be endorsed in the area for which you are applying. Special Education endorsement preferred.- Additional Information
Following the initial interview, selected candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation followed by a final interview. Prior to employment, a drug screen and fingerprint check is required.
This position will be hired for the upcoming 22-23 school year.
- Base salary for a teacher is listed. Increases are based on experience and/ or a Master's Degree.
