Job Responsibilities
Pennoni is seeking a Associate Bridge Engineer for the Transportation Division at our Hampton Roads, VA office.
The ideal candidate will be a person who has experience performing the following, but not limited to:
- Performing NBIS Bridge inspections in Virginia and the surrounding states with opportunities for domestic travel
- Producing high quality technical writing for use in bridge inspection reports, specifications, studies, and other engineering documents
- Assisting with the structural analysis and/or design of Bridges (Highway and Railroad), Culverts, Retaining Walls, and Overhead Sign Structures on various bridge replacement/rehabilitation/preservation projects, structural load ratings, highway improvement projects and multi-disciplinary projects for VDOT, USACE and other agencies/bridge owners throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region
Required Attributes:
- Additional Required Attributes: Basic knowledge of Civil Engineering principles such as structural analysis, steel/concrete design, basic hydrology/hydraulics, and basic geotechnical/foundation design
- Successful completion of FHWA-NHI-13005 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)
- 1 to 2 years of NBIS bridge inspection experience for VDOT and other bridge owners
- General knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD with experience
- Leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal, verbal communication and written skills
- Working on multiple assignments concurrently with varying complexity and differing job responsibilities
Preferred Attributes:
- Successful completion of FHWA-NHI-130087 (Inspection of Ancillary Highway Structures)
- ASNT Level II - Ultrasonic Testing Certification
- Experience with structural analysis software as STAAD, SAP/CSI, AASHTOWare, BrR or BRASS
