SUMMARY OF JOB:
Analyze hair to ascertain condition of hair. Apply bleach, dye, or tint to color customer’s hair, in accordance with appropriate professional standards. Shampoo hair and scalp with water at appropriate temperature and with appropriate product. Massage scalp and give other hair and scalp-conditioning treatments for hygienic or remedial purposes. Style hair by blowing, cutting, trimming and tapering. Suggest coiffure/style according to physical features of customer and current styles, or determine coiffure/style from instructions of customer.
Apply water or waving solutions to hair; use rollers, pin curls or finger wave hair. Set hair by blow drying or natural set, or press hair with straightening comb. Advise customers on how to care for their hair, straighten or permanent wave hair, or lighten or darken hair color.
Perform other beauty services such as shaping and coloring eyebrows or eyelashes, removing unwanted hair, apply solutions that straighten hair or retain curls or waves in hair. Perform scalp and facial treatments, provide makeup analysis; clean, style and fit wigs and hairpieces, and shave male customers. Clean, shape, and polish fingernails. Maintain cuticles in accordance with appropriate professional standards. Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies that are approved for use by Pennswood Village. Maintain work area in a neat, clean professional manner. Assist co-workers with maintaining the salon(s). Maintain record of appointments and charges as needed, complete and submit necessary paperwork to the Accounting Department staff. Responsible for the reception desk functions. Participate in continuing education as required by Pennswood Village. Follow the no tipping policy for all services rendered. Comply with all safety codes and pertinent regulations; report necessary changes or problems to the Community Services Manager.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED.
Current Pennsylvania Cosmetologist license.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Three years experience in a full service hair salon with men and women customers. Prefer geriatric population; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence to maintain log of customer services.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to regularly stand, use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch and lift up to 10 pounds. May be required to assist residents in transferring in and out of stylist chairs. Regular exposure to wet conditions and to professional topical chemicals and odors.
