Grants Officer

The Grants Officer manages pre-award grants services to faculty, staff, and administration in the development and submission of applications/proposals to extramural funders. This position requires excellent written communication skills and the ability to work independently. The Grants Officer reports to the Associate Provost.

Duties
  • Develop and implement strategies with faculty, staff, and administration to draft proposals, budgets and justifications, and appendices for submission to extramural funders, including federal, state, nonprofits, foundations, and corporations. Finalize and upload proposal files for submission through sponsor submission systems such as Grants.gov, Research.gov, ASSIST, and other portals as required. Manage pre-award processes in an independent manner while maintaining awareness of and connection to University priorities and the mission.
  • Provide research and analysis on funding opportunities, funding agencies, private funders, grant writing, grant budgets, and the grant submission process. Including coordination with faculty, staff, administration, and University efforts to identify and pursue external grant opportunities that advance scholarly and creative work and University initiatives. Proactive, intentional, and appropriate outreach out to our constituents.
  • Manage inquiries and serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and administration related to extramural funding.
  • Communicate with funders to determine application fit and fundability. Foster the development and growth of external relations with public and private agencies.
  • Foster a culture of grant seeking at the University and contribute to the growth and development of grant submissions and the RGFR office.
  • Provide general support to RGFR.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree. Exceptional writing skills; exceptional customer/constituent service and problem-solving skills; strong budget development and analysis skills; ability to be thorough; computers and other standard office equipment; MS Word, Excel, etc. Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team and be comfortable meeting deadlines and balancing competing priorities. Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Preferred: Prior pre-award sponsored projects and/or grant writing experience in a higher education setting.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal, education, and employment screening. Qualified individuals with criminal histories will be considered for employment in compliance with applicable laws.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $68,000 - $80,000 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
