Summary
Per Sé Group is hiring an Apprentice Instrument Technician for a long-term contract at our client’s petroleum refinery in Washington State near Seattle.
This refinery is set in a stunning location and has a total crude oil capacity of 119,000 barrels per day. Safety is of paramount importance to our client, and it’s proven in the recognition and accolades they’ve received such as multiple AFPM Safety Awards.
Apprentice Instrument Technician will be trained to set up, troubleshoot, repair, configure and calibrate all electronic, pneumatic, analytical, and hydraulic control elements at an oil refinery.
Technicians will become familiar with many applications including level, temperature, pressure, flow, pH, gas detection and conductivity.
Additionally, Technicians will learn to read P&ID’s, loop drawings, ladder logic and electrical circuitry drawings.
This position does require some climbing and occasional use of breathing apparatuses.
Requirements
- Interest in gaining experience as an instrument technician at either a refinery, chemical plant, or power plant
- Knowledge / Education with Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature, and Analytical sensors and control systems.
- Coursework / Training in setting up a control valve, both pneumatic and electronic.
- Coursework / Training in calibrating electronic and pneumatic XMIT
- Ability to calculate LRV and URV of a simple instrumentation; level, flow, temperature, and pressure
Desired skills and expertise
- Differential pressure transmitters used on flow measurement, level, and pressure
- Control valves and positioners
- Radar, displacer, and Magnetostrictive levels
- Magmeters and Vortex Meters
Maintenance experience gained will include
- Small bore pipefitting task such as removal in installation of 4 and smaller control valves and installing blind flanges
- Performing minor conduit repair to 1 and smaller conduit
- Bending ½ and smaller stainless steel tubing
- Operating of Manlifts and Forklifts a plus
