Peraton is seeking a full-time Resource Conservation/Recovery Technician to join our team in our Fort Irwin, CA complex to support the Deep Space Network (DSN) Contract with NASA/JPL. In conjunction with the Safety, Health and Environmental Office and with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations, maintains the resource conservation/recovery program for the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex.
The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.
Responsibilities:
- Collects and separates recycled items such as plastics, glass, metals, packing materials, cans, paper and cardboard.
- Transports waste products such as oils, solvents, paints, thinners and batteries from satellite accumulation point to the 90-day accumulation point.
- Maintains hazardous waste accumulation points with proper separation of non-compatible waste and with separate containers for each type of hazardous waste generated.
- In conjunction with the Safety, Health and Environmental Office, inspect hazardous waste accumulation areas ensuring the area is in compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws, rules and regulations.
- Verify that all containers are properly labeled before use.
- Ensure all hazardous waste containers in the accumulation areas are closed, air-tight and remain closed except when hazardous waste is added or removed.
- Performing immediate containment of minor hazardous material spills.
- Notify the Safety, Health and Environmental Office of all spills.
- Notify the Safety, Health and Environmental Office of any safety equipment, personal protective equipment and spill recovery material deficiencies that would hinder the ability to accomplish the job in a safe and efficient manner.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 2 years’ experience in related field. In-depth knowledge of types of hazardous waste/materials in use on the Complex. Basic knowledge of hand tools. Ability to operate a forklift, pressure washer, trash truck, etc.
- Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions and procedures with minimal supervision, highly motivated and the ability to work independently or as a team
- Must possess and maintain a valid California drivers' license.
- Must possess and maintain a current Commercial Class B driver's license.
