Responsibilities
In this newly created role, the Vice President, Strategic Advocacy will report to the Senior Vice President, Government and Customer Relations and will be responsible for the development, direction, and management of Peraton’s external engagement strategies with think tanks, FFRDC’s, advocacy organizations, influencers, and experts, leading outreach, engagement, and strategic messaging on priority issues.
- Partner with company leadership and business sector leads to identify, develop, and manage opportunities for, and assist with narrative development of, related messaging to tell the Peraton story, ultimately for use with and through third parties, government partners, and media outlets.
- Develop and maintain a robust internal synchronization forum that facilitates high-volume, high-quality, strategically framed interactions between third parties and all Peraton internal organizations. Meet regularly with Peraton business leadership to collaborate on priorities and provide advice and recommendations on how the Government and Customer Relations function can assist with their set priorities and objectives via strategic advocacy pathways.
- In coordination with all of Peraton, create and maintain a comprehensive third party outreach database. Partner with Marketing, Communications, Strategy, and business growth leads to ensure this critical audience remains informed, in tailored fashion, in ways that support Peraton strategic messaging. ensuring the outreach audience remains informed, in tailored fashion, in ways that support Peraton strategic messaging.
- Lead Peraton efforts to develop and continually refine strategic advocacy opportunities to advance the corporate strategy, shaping the strategic environment to the left of requirements.
- Build and manage an annual “think tank” budget for review and approval.
- Sustain, develop, and grow the inventory of engagement special tools.
- Ensure Govt and Customer Relations is synchronized with strategy and marketing and communications to optimize strategic campaign execution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to excel in strategic engagement and advocacy.
- 12 years of experience with public policy, strategic planning and implementation, leading people, defining strategy, establishing client relationships, and delivering innovative solutions.
- Extensive relationships with Department of Defense, think tanks, and political experts.
- Executive communications experience with emphasis on writing and analysis.
- Experience managing diverse teams and budgets.
- Experience establishing effective organizational brand visibility with key decision makers.
- Experience driving government affairs communications with key elected officials, regulators, agencies, trade associations, and other influential individuals and groups.
- Ability to comprehend technology and recognize and assess the impact of related government policies.
- Advanced understanding of DoD and the defense industry.
- Sophisticated understanding and extensive relationships with think tank and policy community.
- Team player orientation and management absolutely necessary.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
- BA or BS degree.
