Job Summary:
An Inspector of PFP provides the leadership, technical expertise, creativity, and professional skills to make and complete inspections of fire sprinkler systems according to NFPA 25 standards. An Inspector is ultimately responsible for timely and accurate communication of inspection details and results to the Inspection Manager. This position may also be responsible to perform minor service work that cannot be referred to the Service Department of PFP.
Job Duties:
  • Meet or exceed the highest levels of customer service and support for all customers of PFP as it relates to our Inspection Department, consistent with the goals and objectives established by the Inspections Operations Manager, Inspection Sales & Customer Service Rep and Company President.
  • Ensure documentation and inspection reports comply with all necessary NFPA rules and regulations for inspections.
  • Ensure timely submittal of inspection reports to the Inspection Operations Manager and clients.
  • Actively solicits new customers for Inspection Services provided by PFP.
  • Support and encourage the fostering of ethical and positive working relationships with all necessary local fire officials and customers of PFP.
  • Actively maintain positive working relationships will all vendors, customers, and employees of PFP.
  • Achieve appropriate NICET certifications for Inspections within a reasonable time (normally eighteen (18) months) after accepting the position and maintains all necessary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point requirements.
  • Achieve and maintain Backflow testing certifications.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and repairs of systems as needed.
  • Direct and assist assigned crew in fabricating, assembling, installing and maintaining fire system sprinkler piping.
  • Direct and assist in overhead pipe installation, including: steel overhead sprinkler piping, wet, dry, pre-action and deluge, standpipe and hose systems.
  • Direct and assist in installing and servicing valves, devices and trim for system risers, alarm valves, dry pipe valves, pre action and deluge valves, backflow prevention devices, and sprinkler system alarms
  • Communicate with the Field Superintendent, Project Manager, Designers, etc. in a positive manner to properly execute all construction plans and processes.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of all hours worked for each crew member, and forward completed timesheets to the office for processing.
  • Ensure that all Tool Box Talks and Inspections Reports are completed weekly with your assigned crew, and that the completed reports are turned in along with timesheets.
  • Ensure projects finish on time, within budget for labor and materials, within the quality standards of PFP, and to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Ensure system test is complete (with completed documentation) before final inspection with the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Communicate all change orders to the Field Superintendent, including when said change orders are complete.
  • Ensure all reimbursable travel time and expenses are accounted for accurately.
  • Ensure crew members act in a professional manner at each job site being respectful of other trades, contractors, service superintendents, and property owners.
  • Ensure each service project is conducted in a safe manner according to any OSHA regulations or federal, state, or local laws.
  • Ensure job material waste is minimized.
  • Ensure the proper PPE is worn by each assigned crew member every day.
  • Attend Company meetings as required.
  • Maintain the physical appearance of any assigned company vehicle in a manner that reflects the high standards of quality and craftsmanship of PFP.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Expected Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to Office, Word, and Excel and the software used by the Company to conduct inspections.
  • Self-reliant, requiring a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including but not limited to, customers, construction managers, architects, engineers, construction crews, field superintendents and foremen.
  • Must be customer-focused at all times and provide the highest levels of customer service commensurate with the quality of work we expect and provide.
  • Sufficient reasoning abilities to resolve a variety of situations ranging from simple to complex.
  • Ability to make routine mathematical calculations directly relating to the inspection process.
  • High levels of honesty and integrity.
Education and Skill Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 1 (one) years’ experience of direct fire protection system inspection with a variety of system types.
  • NICET Level II certification in inspections is preferred; a North Carolina Inspection Technician License is mandatory.
  • The primary language spoken within our business environment is English. The position requires that the individual have the ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in English at a level sufficient for a variety of people to understand clearly.
  • The individual in this position is required to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements of the job require that this individual have the physical capability to stand, sit, walk, twist, reach, stoop, and speak. It also requires the capability of using hand and eye coordination. The position requires the individual to have the ability to walk across rough, unfinished or unstable surfaces at construction sites; the ability to climb stairs and ladders; and the ability to stand and move in high or precarious places. The position requires the individual to be able to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds.
The physical senses of sight, hearing and speech are required. Vision requirements must be sufficient in order to shift visual focus from computer screens to close, detailed drawing and forms, and written material. The ability to clearly see at a distance at site surveys, construction sites, etc., is also a requirement.
Work Environment:
The majority of the working day is spent primarily at client business locations. Routine travel (primarily by motor vehicle) is required to visit a client’s inspection site. It may require the individual to work in a variety of weather conditions. These conditions can include, but not limited to hot, cool, cold, humid, rain, freezing rain, and possibly snow.
Noise levels will vary dependent upon the working environment, mechanical equipment operating at the time of inspection, and the possibility of audible fire alarms.
Keep in mind that it is important to maintain a clean and neat appearance while in the office and in particular when visiting client locations. Clothing shall be free of suggestive (derogatory) writing, holes, tears, and must have a proper fit.

Normal business hours at PFP are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may be required to occasionally work outside of these hours dependent upon workloads and customer requirements.
