SUMMARY:

The EH&S Specialist is responsible for the continuous improvement of the Perlick Environmental, Health and Safety programs. This role is vital in providing a safe environment for our team and ensuring facility compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.  The EH&S Specialist also partners with the Monterrey, Mexico facility on safety initiatives, programs, and solutions. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  1.  Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations.
  2.  Maintain environmental, health, and safety files and documents.
  3.  Improve and maintain company environmental, health and safety programs and policies.
  4.  Provide technical guidance to management on various safety topics via OSHA standards, EPA guidelines, and other applicable government programs.
  5.  Coordinate and conduct required EH&S training for employees, new hires and temporary employees.
  6.  Leads the Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team.
  7.  Ensure contractor safety guidelines are being met for all contractors performing work on the premises.
  8.  Partner with Human Resources on worker’s compensation claims by providing first reports of incidents/injuries and suggestions on reasonable accommodations where necessary.
  9.  Perform incident investigations and root cause analysis to determine proper corrective actions for incidents and near misses.
  10.  Conduct job hazard assessments, safety observations and inspections as required.
  11.  Compile and maintain safety metrics, analyze incident data for trends and prepare advisory or alert communications.
  12.  Lead regulatory inspections (OSHA, WDNR, EPA, etc.)
  13.  Assist with the completion and filing of environmental, health, and safety permits, forms, and records.
  14.  Collaborate with Area Manager, Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Engineer, and other key roles in an area supporting safety and environmental projects.
  15. Perform various other duties and project work as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to be successful in this role.

 

  •  4-year degree in Occupational Safety or a related field required.
  •  3 years of experience with environmental, health, and safety programs in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  •  Expertise in environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.
  •  Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  •  Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  •  Ability to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidential information.

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA 30-hour certificate.
  • Knowledge of instruments aimed at reducing injuries (near miss, observation, risk assessment).
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification.

  • Daily work may include sitting, bending, standing, crouching, reaching, and some lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Exposure to typical conditions of manufacturing environment including seasonal variation in temperature and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products.
