Position Purpose
The Director, Strategy and Growth, will partner closely with the SVP, Omnichannel Experience to lead the development of the customer value and growth multi-year strategic plan for the company’s integrated, multichannel ecosystem of health and wellness solutions, manage strategic initiatives, identify strategic partnerships, and help integrate them into the business. The successful candidate will partner with senior leaders to develop and articulate the overall strategy and roadmap that will drive shareholder value. S/he will interface with business and marketing leaders at all levels and become a true advisor and partner while driving the One Petco strategic vision and plans forward.
Primary Areas of Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning Process – Partner with the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders to develop the customer value and growth multi-year strategic plan and roadmap for the company’s integrated, multichannel ecosystem of health and wellness solutions.
- Strategic Initiative Management – Provide guidance and support to business unit leaders in transferring and maximizing the strategy to business and marketing plans. Become a trusted advisor and partner to these leaders in supporting the implementation of the One Petco strategy. Deploy best in class project management tools and techniques to help the business and marketing owners manage strategic initiatives.
- Business Development – Support business development opportunities which include growth strategies for the company. This encompasses proactively scanning the market for potential acquisition (M&A) and partnership targets, conducting analysis and diligence during exploratory phases, and ensuring the smooth integration of all acquisitions and partnerships.
- Thought Leadership / Special Projects – Take a proactive and forward-looking view of the macroeconomic, industry, customer trends, and competitive landscape to develop a point of view of what the organization should explore and prioritize. Support the Chief Merchant, Chief Stores Officer, Chief Digital Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and SVP, Omnichannel Experience on high priority, high impact projects against key areas like customer and market opportunities, operational excellence, and strategic partnerships.
Qualifications

An individual with the sophistication to be successful in a large and complex organization with the entrepreneurial spirit and mindset to make change happen.
- Prior work experience, including:
- Experience in blue-chip strategy-consulting firms (Bain, BCG, McKinsey, Deloitte, etc.) and/or
- Background in private equity, corporate development, investment banking and/or
- Corporate Strategy experience with a large and growing corporation
- Specific sector experience could be in retail, ecommerce, consumer goods, manufacturing, or technology companies
- Established track record of strategically creating value and viewed as a respected source of critical thinking and breakthrough ideas
- Experience building credible strategies to achieve the desired vision and commercial outcome
- Capable of stepping back from day-today activities to view the business from a different perspective and see the bigger picture
- Well-grounded in pragmatic approaches to the structuring options available in a company transforming through M&A
- Intellectually curious individual with impeccable integrity and world-class ethical standards
- Open-minded individual who has a flexible and open operating style with a natural consultative approach, which gains the trust and respect of individuals at all levels
- Catalyzes dialogue, shapes thinking, gains support, influences others, and projects substance over form
