Job Summary
The User Experience / User Interface (UX/UI) Designer III is responsible for driving designs that create the best products and interface experiences for pet owners through PetSafe Brands various products, applications, and global web properties. This position requires collaboration with multiple product owners, stakeholders, and technical positions to strategize, prioritize and help conceptualize and refine designs based on customer insights and prototyping. The incumbent will demonstrate strong UX and UI skills, a passion for the field of usability, and an eagerness to present design decisions and effectively communicate amongst various levels of the organization. Being able to communicate not only the “what” but also the “why” behind design decisions and understanding the impact to timelines and costs is critical. The designer in this role is expected to grow facilitation and listening skills, evolve processes, actively participating in project planning and help the organization understand how delighting the customer is the key to our, and our customers’, success.

Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver the best possible user experience across our products; both physical and digital
- Work with and leads product categories, engineers, and developers on the customer experience and interface needs on a range of pet products, native apps, and websites
- Establish, design within, maintain and evolve UX/UI guidelines, processes and design systems ensuring their effective implementation across products and services
- Create wireframes, visual comps, prototypes, style guides, and other deliverables as needed to effectively communicate and evaluate designs
- Harmonize with Industrial Design on product design concepts and user touch-points
- Partner with research and insights to run in-home use tests, surveys, and qualitative studies
- Collaborate with developers to create iterative, interactive prototypes to evaluate through user testing
- Create visual designs bringing the customer experience to life in the associated app
- Represent and advocate customer-centered design within teams and throughout the organization
- Work with developers and engineers to oversee changes through to completion and be accountable for the finished quality of the product experience
- Facilitate/moderate cross-functional design discovery sessions
- Contribute to the professional development of other UX/UI team members
- Give and receive feedback from peers and stakeholders alike to better self, the team and our offerings
- Work on concurrent projects in a dynamic environment
- Proven time management skill
- Experience in:
- Project planning
- Creating design systems and style guides
- Designing Internet of Things applications
- Working on an Agile team/environment
- Usability testing of ideas
- Solid understanding of usability, universal design, and designing for touch
- 4-6 years of relevant UX/UI design experience; preferably with CPG products
- Fluency in current visual design practices, digital design software (Sketch App, Adobe Creative Suite), and UI prototyping and testing tools (InVision, Flinto, Marvel, Figma, etc)
- Experience working with development/engineering teams seeing design from proof of concept to implementation to ensure design is delivered efficiently
- Ability and willingness to communicate, share knowledge and collaborate across department
- Strong work ethic and high standards for quality and efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction or related field
- Timely execution of high-quality design deliverables
- Participation in backlog grooming and sprint planning
- Leading customer-centric research as necessary
- Regular and predictable attendance required
- Reports to Director: Hard and Soft Goods Engineering, UX/UI and ID
- Works with the Insights, UX/UI Designers, Software Team Manager, Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers and Developers to design and maintain a portfolio of products and applications
- Works directly with all Brands, Product Categories, and Service Departments
- Works with outside vendors as applicable
- Assists in assigning projects to other UX/UI team members
- Assists in advising PMO on timelines and project plans
