Mailroom Technician
Location: Redstone Arsenal, AL
Position Summary:
Potawatomi Training is seeking a qualified Mailroom Technician to serve as the Central point of contact for MISC Screening Operations and mailroom support operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Acts as the Central POC for MSIC Mail Screening Operations, available for receiving incoming mail and packages for subsequent screening processing for MSIC government and contractor personnel.
- Distribute and receive SCI materials to/from the Defense Courier Service (DSC): Provided personnel shall prepare account documentation, wrap packages, and notify DCS for pending pickup.
- Receive incoming mail, sort, and distribute to the appropriate units, process incoming mail making distribution into the appropriate Division/Branch units in the mailroom area. This entails, but not limited to: Opening packages, signing for receipt of packages, making distribution of packages (which can include telephone notification to end-recipient of received package), and processing package transmittal documentation ensuring document/package receipts are returned to sender precluding any package tracer actions.
- Ensures all outgoing mail contains proper security release authorizations, receipts, tracking information, wrapping, shipping labels and other markings as appropriate prior to release from MSIC mailroom.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance/repair. All service records and receipts shall be filed and maintained as well as copies being provided to the COR.
- Record outgoing mail and record the package received receipt in the MSIC Enhanced Management System (MEMS).
- Gather inventory items and evaluate seasonal inventory counts, recording inventory items and materials
- Maintain all documentation and files related to mail functions. This includes, but not limited to, mail receipts, FedEx receipts, registered and certified mail, DCS Authorization Form 10).
- Monitor expendable items (wrapping materials, envelopes, tape, labels, etc.) to ensure sufficient supply is always maintained.
- Answer inquiries from employees about posting rates and duration and inform them about special posting packages and promotions
- Keep the mailroom organized by properly arranging the bundles of mail and packages coming in to prevent littering and jam-packing in the office space
- Weigh employee items to be mailed to get the right weights and assign the proper amount of postage to them
- Train mailroom clerks that are new to the organization, putting them in-line with best practices and organizational mailing procedures
Experience & Education Requirements:
Experience:
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Must be able to pass a fit for duty test with no physical restrictions and able to lift up to 60 pounds
- Current and valid driver’s license
- Must have a TS Clearance
Preferred
- Working knowledge of USPS policy and regulations
- Working knowledge of FedEx and/or UPS polices and regulations
- Operational knowledge of metered mail machines
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Basic math skills required for weighing mail and determining the correct postage
- Motor coordination in order to rapidly and accurately sort mail
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of the team
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow procedures and regulations
- General computer experience in a work environment
Working Conditions:
- Some walking and standing for long periods of time. You may have to lift and carry mail or boxes weighing up to 60 pounds
- High degree of activity
- Most of the work is performed indoors
- Work in the occupation involves making repetitive motions more than 1/3 of the time
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend
