Department Overview
Generation Support Services (GSS), part of Generation Business & Technical Services (BTS) supports the greater PG&E Power Generation organization. PG&E’s Power Generation manages a portfolio of generation assets including: the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation, Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, three fossil-fueled generating stations, several solar and future battery storage stations. These generation assets are located across PG&E territory. GSS is responsible for the management of Power Generation Guidance Documents, which establish how we do business, and Records, which document the great work we do.
Position Summary
Position Location Flexible within the PG&E Service Territory. If you choose your work location as Diablo Canyon Power Plant: To obtain and maintain employment, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.
The Supervisor, Technical Documentation Management, first responsibility is leading a team of technical document writing and publication professionals who provide clear and easily understood policies, standards and procedures that are in alignment with the company’s guidance document standard. These documents are the foundation for generation work activities and guide work practices daily. Additionally, this position will support generation Records initiatives to improve the documentation and retrievability of generation records.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures all document projects are high quality and delivered on time. Receives, prioritizes, and schedules all document publications. Creates combined plans for workload and publication.
- Holds regular meetings with clients on publication and plan progress. Balances workloads and schedules of staff and assists staff with issues as they arise.
- Helps client organizations to become Guidance Document Management (GDM) compliant by ensuring conformance to the GDM standards, procedures, and templates.
- Communicates with clients on a regular basis and ensures client needs are met and/or are resolved in a timely manner.
- Serves in a lead role and provides oversight for special projects. (i.e. Guidance Document review cycle, Generation Records process improvement)
- Manages technical writer contracts.
- Provides performance and publication reports and metrics to management.
- Ensures their teams compliance with safety, corrective action program (CAP) and training requirements.
Leads a team that includes professional employees and may include union-represented employees.
Travel less than 5% with rare overnight stays.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- 5 years of experience with technical publications, technical writing, and document databases
Desired Qualifications:
- Technical Degree
- Supervisory skills including the ability to lead writing, drafting, and technical senior-level staff.
- Experience with CAP or other process improvement systems
- 10 or more years of experience with technical publications, technical writing, and document databases
- Utility related technical document writing and publishing skills.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with a broad range of audience.
- Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.
