Department Overview
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary
Oversees transmission project clearances as well as the Title 200 Gas Project Clearance Support Team that prepares and executes all clearances for Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan work and other project work. The work primarily consists of Hydro-testing, Valve Replacement, Pipe Replacement, and In Line Inspection clearances. Works closely with project teams, local T&R supervisors, General Construction and assigned contractors, to plan, schedule and execute project related clearances.
Job Responsibilities
- Actively participates in department’s accident prevention program.
- Creates and fosters a safe work environment by maintaining an absolute commitment to safety for self and others.
- Develops and implements work practices that aid in reducing operating costs.
- Ensures all employees are trained and qualified to perform assigned tasks.
- Ensures crew productivity and costs are monitored regularly to effectively use resources.
- Identifies and takes corrective action on undesirable employee behavior and project activities.
- Investigates and determines root cause failures for incidents and near hits that occur in a timely manner.
- Maintains clear communication and reporting with Superintendent on work progress and any obstacles that may hinder it.
- Manages Project Clearances from inception to completion while applying PG&E’s Code of Safe Practices.
- Promotes and fosters a working partnership with IBEW leadership and its members.
- Recruit/select, communicate expectations, foster employee engagement, coach, develop, mentor, recognize and reward employees in order to drive performance and results. Manages Union employees. Manages contractors.
- Supervises Gas Control Technicians (GTC), Lead Gas Techs & Lead Mechanic Welders, Gas Transmission Mechanics/Welders (GTM), Apprentice GTC’s and GTM’s, as well as contract support employees in the same classifications.
- Writes system and station clearances.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
- Experience in gas operations, or related, 5 years
- Experience in utility operations, or related, 2 years
- Requires travel up to 50% of the time
Desired:
- Bachelors Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- Leadership experience
