Coordinating Wildlife Biologist/
Easement and Compliance Specialist
Idaho
Location: Two open positions, these positions will be located in a USDA field office. One position in Malad, ID and one position in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Overview:
This is a full-time position working directly with Idaho NRCS, Intermountain West Joint Venture (IWJV) and Pheasants Forever, as well as other in-state conservation partners to support ID NRCS. This position will expand ID NRCS capacity to strategically work with producers to implement wet meadow and other wetland, stream, riparian, and mesic conservation on working lands.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in conservation, biology, agriculture, or closely related field with three years of work experience in your field.
Expected experience and skills include:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong background in wildlife management and ecology
- Substantial computer and technology-based understanding
- Planning, budget management, program evaluation, and report writing
- A strong understanding of Farm Bill Programs (EQIP, CSP, ACEP, CRP) specifically as it relates to program implementation, standards and specifications and practice designs.
Desirable experience and skills include:
- Working with federal, state, NGO, and private industry partners
Salary: Up to $47,500 Commensurate with experience benefits (see benefit summary at top of page and also on our Careers page at www.pheasantsforever.org/jobs ) and the option to participate in Pheasants Forever’s student loan repayment program.
Duties and Expectations
Activities of the initial positions include but will not be limited to:
- Biological inventory and planning for wetland wildlife habitat conservation.
- Conservation plans and contracts for key practices such as Wetland Wildlife Habitat Management, Wetland Enhancement, and Wetland Restoration that improve flood-irrigation infrastructure to improve migratory bird habitat and achieve producer objectives.
- Collaborate with partners and interested producers to plan and implement other wetland, mesic, stream, and riparian habitat projects.
- Work with NRCS State Office easement division staff, conservation partners, and private landowners to enhance management of existing WRP and WRE parcels through science-based wetland management approaches that improve the habitat value on enrolled lands. This may include utilizing Conditional Use Authorizations (CUA) and/or updating Wetland Reserve Plan of Operations (WRPO).
- NEPA and ESA compliance support.
- Partner and public outreach.
- Easement Support: In collaboration with the with Idaho Coalition of Land Trusts, this position would support NRCS and partners in all aspects of strategically sustaining sagebrush, wet meadow, riparian, and mesic conservation on working lands through the use and management of ACEP conservation easements.
