Job Description
General Summary
- The Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer) provides patient services utilizing ultrasound imaging equipment, making a record of the exam produced for interpretation by the radiologist. May assist in other Medical Imaging divisions as trained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates schedule flexibility, punctuality and availability, and works well under pressure.
- Communicates/discusses semi complex or involved information; sets priorities; organizes and coordinates a variety of multiple tasks, prioritizing and managing time effectively; meets and establishes time schedules; and works cohesively with all levels of hospital personnel and physicians.
- Provides personal care and safe transfers, which includes proficiency with adaptive equipment such as hoyer lifts and sliding boards, demonstration skills as required.
- Demonstrates solid interpersonal, customer and problem-solving skills.
- Handles confidential materials, complies with the corporate compliance plan. Participates in hospital performance improvement initiatives as directed.
- Keeps both patient and significant others informed of exam status. Responds to patient's request for assistance in a timely manner and follows through to meet patient's need.
- Performs patient ultrasound services according to department policy and procedures and regulatory agency guidance, interprets physician’s orders accurately, assists in maintenance of patient and department records and ensures patient safety.
Education
- Graduate of an ultrasound technology program desired. Current enrollment in ultrasound technology program allowed.
Work Experience
- One year of experience as registered sonographer is preferred. Multi-modality technologist is preferred.
Certification/License
- A registered sonographer – ARDMS in OB or ABD, currently registered by SDMS or RT(S) currently registered by the ARRT. Allowances will be made for registry-eligible individual that will attempt registry within 30 days of hire and pass within 90 days of hire. Alternatively, registered radiography technologists, currently registered by the ARRT may be allowed if enrolled in an ultrasound training program. There will always be, at minimum, indirect supervision by a registered ultrasound technologist. This pathway will require attempting the registry within 30 days of eligibility and passing within 90 days from eligibility. BLS through the American Heart Association required.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- (May be met with appropriate accommodations if deemed necessary): Close mental and visual attention required for sustained periods of time. Frequently works under stressful conditions due to demands of customers and the critical condition of some patients. Must be able to transport self throughout department. Standing, walking, sitting, carrying/lifting (up to 35 lbs.), turning, carrying, pushing, pulling and stooping.
