Medical Assistant Job Description

The ideal Medical Assistant will take a trauma-informed and harm-reduction approach to health care. The trauma-informed approach is guided by four assumptions: Realization about trauma and how it can affect people and groups, recognizing the signs of trauma, having a system which can respond to trauma, and resisting re-traumatization. Unlike approaches that insist that people stop using drugs, harm reduction acknowledges that many people are not able or willing to abstain from illicit drug use, and that abstinence should not be a precondition for help.
