Master Teacher and Literacy Coach
Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson (Philip’s Academy), seeks a skilled and experienced educator as its Master Teacher and Literacy Coach to drive a high performing school’s literacy program. The goal of the Master Teacher and Literacy Coach is to model effective teaching and collaborate closely with the school’s academic leadership team (Directors, Principals, and Executives) to ensure that teachers are planning/executing lessons and developing classroom-based cultures that promote high levels of student achievement and excitement for teaching and learning in literacy. The Master Teacher and Literacy Coach in conjunction with the academic leadership team will ensure that every content area classroom and literacy intervention focuses on improving students' literacy habits and skills through emphasis on student motivation, engagement, achievement, and quality teacher practice.

Reports Directly To: Chief Academic Officer
Roles & Responsibilities:
Instruction and Leadership
Lead the planning process to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of the literacy instructional model
Lead the implementation of of school-wide literacy plan and literacy improvement
Develop and lead professional development sessions for the instructional staff as necessary and/or as requested by the Chief Academic Officer and School Leader
Organize, manage, evaluate and supervise effective procedures for the operation of the school’s instructional vision consistent with the instructional model
Provide ongoing consistent support to teachers for the implementation and instruction components, through a cycle of coaching and feedback
Lead curriculum mapping process as needed
Ensure necessary accommodations and modifications are implemented regularly in every classroom so that each students academic needs are met
Establish procedures to evaluate and select literacy instructional resources and provide school leaders with these recommendations and requests in a timely manner.
Model outstanding and highly effective teaching for instructional staff.
Co-plan and co-teach with instructional staff
Willing to teach one section of related content
Support and/or manage extended learning opportunities to support young people afterschool and/or during Saturday school
Administrative and Coordination:
Using Data to prepare schedules and coordinate interventions.
Managing assessment data and using it to drive instruction and programmatic decisions.
Assist school leaders in identifying campus weaknesses in reading/language arts.
Support teachers through one-one coach and workshop to disaggregating and analyzing data to plan instruction
Present literacy data report and presentations to school leaders, when applicable
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Education or related field preferred; advanced degree in education a plus.
At least five (5) years of successful work in instruction
Valid New Jersey teacher certification, ELA/Literacy highly required
A valid New Jersey supervisory or school administration certification, preferred
Training in school content area curriculum, instructional strategies and reading initiatives (preferred)
A clear record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom, with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results.
A relentless work ethic and commitment to achieving the school's mission.
Excellent strategic planning, leadership, management, and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead instructional and non-instructional staff.
Shared dedication to Philip’s Academy’s philosophy and mission.
A minimum of two years leading and/or implementing school-wide literacy initiatives
Experience in strategic planning and leading adults
In depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction
Experience managing assessment data and using it to drive instruction and programmatic decisions
Knowledge and demonstrated implementation of New Jersey Learning Standards in English Language Arts
Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Openness to feedback and a willingness to take personal responsibility for teacher and student success
Demonstrated commitment to closing the achievement gap
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the School Leader and approved by board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
