The Operator Intern will observe / work independently and with other personnel to maintain and operate equipment and processes at the Lake Charles Refinery.
Some of the processes involve the use hazardous and volatile materials under high temperature and pressure. Typical working conditions include : outside weather and elements, blowing air, heat, noise, vibration and occasionally working from heights.
Operator interns must follow safe work practices including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, Operator interns will assist personnel to perform various duties required to keep their assigned processing unit / area operating safely and at specified production / run rates.

Responsibilities May Include :
- Demonstrating awareness and commitment to safety
- Assist operators in maintaining equipment and operations
- Assist operators while taking samples / readings of various process streams
- Monitoring and observing assigned area for abnormal conditions and emergency situations
- Participating in safety reviews
Required Qualifications :
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
- Valid driver's license
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Currently enrolled in a Process Technology program at an accredited school with expected graduation no later than 2025, or a recent graduate of a Process Technology program at an accredited school
- Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https : / / www.

- Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to :
- Read technical procedures and materials in English
- Work near large, hot, high speed machines
- Work near products that are under high pressure and heat
- Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- Maintain your face daily so that a respirator / face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and / or clean shaven)
- Climb up to 200 feet in height
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Work outside in harsh weather conditions
- Learn computer software associated with process operations
The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units.
Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils.
It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline.
Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke.
Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
