What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Manager position at Phillips Academy?
Reporting to the Director of Athletics and working in collaboration with current equipment manager, Phillips Academy seeks a person who will manage all matters relating to athletic uniforms and equipment of designated teams and programs as assigned by Director of Athletics. This includes the purchasing, issue, collection, laundering, care, fitting and inventory. Interacts with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, parents, and visitors. During academic year, work week is Tuesday – Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Tuesday – Friday) and Saturdays 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. This job entails additional weeks following year end and prior to fall preseason. Dependability and strong customer service skills required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Equipment/uniform laundering: Daily collection, laundering and distributing of all athletic equipment and laundry loops across all athletic facilities.
- Equipment accountability: maintain inventory records, documenting lost or damaged items and replacement or restoration of these items.
- Purchasing: determine inventory needs based on use and demand and work with local vendors for best pricing and equipment/uniform support.
- Team Stores: Working with individual teams and coaches, establishing on-line team stores in timely manner relative to start of seasons.
- Maintenance: continuously evaluate inventory. Establish a laundry protocol following manufacturer's recommendations for care. Evaluate and repair protective equipment in accordance with NOCSAE, NCAA, and NFHS standards
- Fitting of clothing and equipment.
- Provide support to the Director of Athletics and athletic administrators and staff to maximize the efficient operation of the Department.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Minimum 3 years experience supervising an equipment room in an educational environment, or equivalent.
- B.A. preferred, AEMA certification preferred (or obtained within 3 years of hire).
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Excellent multi-tasking skills.
- Positive attitude; routinely interacts with students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors.
- Problem solver; must be able to anticipate problems and pursue solutions.
- Disposition; must be able to handle adversity and unexpected developments in a fast-paced, student-center work environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
