Job Summary
The Quality Laboratory Engineer/Analyst’s major function and responsibility as part of our Service Center involves conducting failure analysis on returned product from our customers utilizing various lab equipment and the skills learned in past experiences. Communication skills are essential as the work frequently takes input from various departments and job functions. During the failure analysis, investigation questions may come up that may lead to discussions with our product engineers, sales, and/or marketing colleagues and possibly with the customer and/or suppliers. The Quality Engineer/Analyst will also be involved in or be asked to lead project management activities.
The ideal candidate for the Quality Laboratory Engineer/Analyst role will be possessed of flexibility and enjoy learning as they will be working with two other Quality Engineer Analysts in an environment that is self-directed and exposed to all the products that Phoenix Contact has to offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct root cause analysis concerning quality problems that are tied back to suppliers and/or customers
- Initiate and support corrective action / continuous improvement activities and projects utilizing project management tools
- Customer, distributor, field sales communication and collaboration on quality related issues
- Global communication and coordination with colleagues in the United States, Germany and other Phoenix Subsidiaries regarding quality related activities.
- Collaborate with other departments, complaints management hubs, subsidiaries and suppliers with their product quality and improvement needs.
- Provide metrics / KPIs summaries and correlation analysis of supplier and/or customers rejected material for failure analysis and corrective action.
- Collaborate with development engineering teams and supplier partners to ensure quality objectives are realized
- Work with engineering and quality services team as required for recommending inspection / test procedures
Must-Have Qualifications
- Minimum four-year degree in electrical engineering or other similar disciplines
- Ability to use electronics inspection and test equipment:
- Network Analyzer
- Function generator
- Digital multimeters
- Hi Pot Testers
- Ability to read engineering drawings and circuit design schematics.
We Value
- Certifications in IPC A-600, A-610 a plus
- Previous experience in electronics and soldering operations preferred
- Self-motivated, reliable individual that can work without much supervision.
- Error-Proofing experience preferred.
- Good mathematical and analytical skills.
- Good technical articulation / writing skills.
- Computer experience, proficiency w/ Microsoft office
Must Be Able To…
- Travel domestically and internationally, by car or air
- Receive / or have a US passport
- Ride in a car for an extended time
- Lift at least 35 pounds
- Work 8 hours overtime a week, if required
- Stand or sit continually for extended periods of time
- Use a computer for two hours at a time without break
- Have good color vision
- Speak, understand and write in English
- Travel for training 1 – 2 day sessions a few times a year
- Travel to suppliers routinely
