What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at Phoenix Seminary?
Reports to: Facility Manager
Classification: Part-time, Hourly
Direct reports: No Direct reports
Position Summary: The Janitor is responsible for cleaning and maintaining a clean and safe facility. All areas must be kept in top condition, and identified problems that must be solved before they become more prominent. The Janitor will complete tasks promptly, ensuring campus operations are not interrupted.
Responsibilities & Role:
- Maintains the cleanliness of the facility (i.e. vacuuming, trash, restrooms, general cleaning and service requests for special cleaning tasks, etc.)
- Assists with facilities duties, including set-up and tear-down for all campus events
- Assists with maintaining building furnishings, equipment, and operating systems
- Supports safety and security on the campus
- Opens and closes the facility
- Help resolve facility emergencies as they arise
- Maintain regular schedule/replenishing of supplies and laundry
- Complete cleaning and maintenance daily/weekly/monthly checklists
- Other duties and projects as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Lifting and carrying heavy trash bags and other materials, furniture, equipment, and tools
- Climbing, crawling, and stooping to reach work; manual strength and skill to operate tools and equipment, and pull, push, or manipulate heavy objects against resistance
- May experience exposure to bacterial contamination and hazardous chemicals and fumes
- Good vision to ensure areas are cleaned
- Ability to see and use a computer
- Speech and hearing for in-person and telephone communications
- A sense of smell to detect abnormal conditions such as smoke and odors associated with malfunctions and leaks
- Ability to stand and walk for long period of time
- Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools
- This work is performed on campus; no remote work option is available
- The work schedule varies depending on campus events and needs

- Demonstrate a high degree of institutional loyalty and the capability of protecting the confidentiality of sensitive matters related to the institution.
- Computer literacy with knowledge of Windows-based programs is essential, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, efficient and pleasant telephone and personal contact abilities.
- Excellent organizational abilities. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Ability to multi-task efficiently.
- Previous experience in maintaining a clean work environment is required.
