Title: Electrical Test Engineer
Location: GE Transportation – a Wabtec Company, Erie, PA
Job Description:
We have a dynamic opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to initiate and manage component testing through our on-site lab. This position will also support trouble shooting of drives control reliability issues. The Engineer will implement, verify and validate control and diagnostic algorithms for various power devices. Familiarity with Current Transformers, IGBTs, GTOs, Sensors, Inverter Assemblies, Bus Bars and Circuit Breakers is a bonus.
Responsibilities:
- The engineer will be integrated into the design and testing of power circuits and electrical hardware as related to locomotives and off-highway vehicles (primary power and control systems).
- Execute converter measurements and characterization for medium and high voltage power electronics.
- Support Lead and Senior engineers in evaluation of concepts and development of detailed controller designs.
- Participate as a presenter in technical reviews.
- Drive cross-functional teams to execute on critical project milestones, including but not limited to; design reviews, material orders, prototype builds, field and bench testing, etc.
- Use creativity to identify and resolve drives control reliability issues.
Desired Skills:
- Experience or training in control system design, Large Scale Capacitors, Bus Bars, Contactors, Relays, Circuit Breakers, switching theory and practical applications.
- Experience or training in control system design, lab setup techniques and lab automation control schemes.
- An understanding of control logic function and its interaction between major electrical components.
- Use of a control modeling system (MATLAB, LabVIEW) and/or C/C software.
- Ability to create engineering experiments and execute testing to create workable solutions for electrical powered components.
- Ability to work “hands-on” in test labs and on locomotives or off-highway vehicles with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or technical degree with 1 year of related experience.
