Medical Billing Clerk
General Summary
Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper. Responsible for the timely submission of claims to insurance companies. Reviews bills for accuracy and completeness and obtains any missing information, prior to claims submittal.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ensures all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors.
Verifies completeness and accuracy of all claims prior to submission.
Regularly meets with supervisor to discuss and resolve billing obstacles.
Regularly attend monthly staff meetings and continuing education educational sessions as requested.
Checks to make certain ICD codes match billing records.
Bill Secondary claims with primary EOB attachment.
Sends out paper claims with all appropriate attachments (authorizations, Medical Records, Fee tickets, etc.).
Obtains medical records for claims attachments.
Performs data entry corrections when claim errors are identified.
Audits all paper claims for appropriate billing.
Dependability is essential: You must be able to work consistently and on time while following instructions, responding to management direction, and soliciting feedback to improve performance.
Identifies and corrects billing errors and resubmits claims.
Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and Federal Privacy Law.
Provides feedback to management regarding possible problems and areas of improvement.
Responsible for all daily productivity reporting requirements.
Maintains and exceeds department standards for productivity and quality.
Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and other payers.
Functions effectively within a team and participates and contributes constructively to produce results in a cooperative effort.

SPECIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Abilities
High School Diploma or equivalent certification.
Prior Physical/Occupational Therapy claims knowledge is preferred.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as ability to work in a team environment.
Skilled at managing multiple projects and grasping new concepts.
Knowledge of healthcare industry with emphasis on Medical billing.
Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Workman’s Comp Insurance Knowledge.
Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Applications.
Accurately complete assignments while meeting deadlines.
Excellent organization skills.
Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Must possess good oral and written communication skills and recognize importance of teamwork.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office with Excel skills.
Working knowledge of the NextGen System.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
2 years of previous medical billing experience preferred.
Experience with Raintree systems preferred.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
