Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
Primary responsibilities include preadmission anesthesia assessments in two hospital pre-admission testing centers, inpatient pre and post-anesthesia assessments, and inpatient acute pain management consults and rounds.
Schedule is 4 x 10's with some weekend coverage required. May considered different schedule options upon request. 
 
Job Summary:
  • The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) clinics to provide pre-admission anesthesia screening to patients having surgical procedures.
  • Prepare anesthesia documentation for the upcoming days.
  • Participate with daily inpatient pain management rounds and provide health care, teaching, counseling and treatment to patients, including assessments of patient’s medical, pharmacological and psychosocial needs.
  • Facilitates pre-operative patient assessments and provide interventions that achieve desirable patient outcomes and enhances the delivery of quality healthcare to patients.
  • Essential job functions are focused on patient assessment, effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation and continuous quality improvement.
  • Interview patients before the day of surgery, assessing and obtaining history, laboratory work, and diagnostic testing.
  • Assess the physical and psychosocial health of patients having surgical procedures by performing physical examinations and ordering pertinent lab work if needed.
  • Prepare patients and families physically and emotionally for their anesthesia experience through interview, physical assessment and education.
  • Consults appropriately with collaborating physicians, anesthesia team and perioperative team in accordance to guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate the patient’s treatment and health care plan for effectiveness and coordinate admission and discharge for pain management inpatients, including assurance that appropriate discharge prescriptions and follow up appointments are made.
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to patient optimization, chart completion, and high patient/family satisfaction.
  • Assist with the on-going Quality Improvement process and initiatives in order to enhance the quality of patient care. · Must be cheerful and empathetic. · Must adopt and promote PSA’s corporate customer service culture.
Requirements:
  • Masters or Doctoral level degree as Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with a current license to practice in the State of Georgia
  • ACNP or AGACNP required
  • Physician Assistants must also have a current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Attainment of ACLS within one year
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable in acute care adult medical and surgical care, performing assessments, planning patient care, providing direct care, and educating and orienting families and staff.
  • Experienced and highly proficient in at least one (1) acute care/hospital EMR required, highly proficient in Epic preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with acute inpatient care and/or cardiology, pulmonary, critical care, pre-op or PACU is preferred.
  • Prior Pre-admissions team experience supporting patients preparing for surgeries and procedures preferred but not required.
