What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant position at Physicians Stat Lab?
Physicians Stat Lab, an independently run clinical laboratory is looking for a Mobile Phlebotomist to draw blood and other tissues or fluid from patients for testing. We will depend on you to preserve the quality of the patients’ samples. This is a rewarding career as you get to help many different people on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
- Identify patients and their personal information using their ID, documents
- Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health, etc.
- Reassure patients and help them relax by explaining the process of drawing blood clearly to a patient
- Locating appropriate veins for blood collection
- Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment
- Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
- Apply dressings to the wound created by drawing blood
- Label samples correctly and send them for testing
- Answer patient questions and provide useful information
- Prepare samples for testing using various laboratory equipment
- Keep accurate records on specimens and tests
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working to maintain an organized and clean work area
Skills
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
- Attention to detail ( follow rules and regulations)
- Able to multi-task in high stressful situations
- Ability to use computers to enter data
- Strong communication skills
- Patience and presence of mind
- Diploma in Phlebotomy or proof of extensive training
- Certification is a plus
