DIGITAL PRODUCER
Picket Fence Media, an award-winning hyper-local community media group based in coastal South Orange County, seeks a Digital Producer to help grow the company’s digital and social audiences on the Dana Point Times, San Clemente Times and The Capistrano Dispatch. The Digital Producer will work under the direction of the Managing Editor and alongside the team of reporters to help gather content for general and breaking news stories, and curate content and advertisements for our websites and social media platforms. The ideal candidate should be engaged on social media, knowing how to utilize all platforms to gather information and to push out news stories to inform readers. We need someone who is creative, can write effectively and efficiently, pithy, very organized and a team player.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Posting stories, features, breaking news, photo galleries and video packages to our websites
- Using our suite of digital tools to take that content and turn them into succinct and eye-catching posts on our social media platforms
- Monitoring social media to gather information and write breaking news stories
- Putting together daily and weekly email newsletters
- Working with the editorial team by being involved in meetings; knowing the reporters’ daily and weekly coverage; and communicating with them for digital coverage
- Working some nights and weekends with the reporters for special community events
- Tracking digital analytics—website traffic, email open rates and social engagement
Required Experience:
- Experience in Hootsuite, WordPress, MailChimp, Canva and Photoshop a plus
- College degree in Journalism or equivalent required
- 1-2 years of newsroom experience preferred
- Knowledgeable of AP style and of best practices for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube
