Job Description
An Associate Biocurator at Pierian will be part of our Knowledgebase (KB) team that develops the world’s most clinically robust genomic knowledgebase. Associate Biocurators are trainable graduates with clear understanding of genetics, molecular biology and cancer biology who will curate, interpret and represent the data from a variety of sources into logical rules that form the core of our clinical genomic knowledgebase. Their imprint on the knowledgebase will power medical insights for doctors and patients at clinical molecular laboratories around the world.

Responsibilities
- Technical/Scientific
- Demonstrate clear understanding of rules in KnowledgeBase (KB) and the rule firing logic of the same in Clinical Genomic Workplace (CGW)
- Association between gene test and clinical findings
- Predicates and attributes part of a rule and its impact on rule firing
- Patient management impact to curate the clinically relevant assertion (Therapeutic/Prognostic/Diagnostic)
- Application of Disease ontology with understanding of in disease/out of disease concept and its impact on rule firing
- Use of WashU and CAP/AMP/ASCO classification for variant cataloguing
- Demonstrate clear understanding of respective source curation workflow for the given KB team
- Screening and curation of data to establish association of clinical/scientific evidences in a holistic manner and to fulfil curation asks such as clinical inferences and write them as rules
- Understanding of prevailing curation strategies and the clinically significant data that is curated already in the KB
- Proactively seeking clarification on -
- content related queries with the right point of contacts and getting a good understanding before proceeding to the next step.
- for any misalignment identified between written work instruction and workflow implementation before proceeding
- Understanding of QA/QC process for curated content
- Demonstrate clear understanding of rules in KnowledgeBase (KB) and the rule firing logic of the same in Clinical Genomic Workplace (CGW)
- Communications
- Initiate or engage in clear communication (slack, email and verbal) regarding any blockers/issues with team members and team leads
- Should be able to clearly communicate on curation strategy related queries with senior team member or within the team during discussion sessions
- Operational
- Follow/execute daily/weekly tasks till completion based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) with ownership and responsibility
- Completion of assigned training with clear understanding of timelines and project requirement.
- Self QC of curation task to demonstrate a high standard with each product deliverable
- Should be able to perform the curation task with reasonable team velocity and with least major errors that may impact project delivery or patient care
- Commitment to delivery on day-to-day tasks and projects in alignment with project timelines
- Clear communication of daily work progress/status to the team lead
- Should demonstrate clear alignment with the team’s release plan
- Demonstrate durable adherence to Pierian core values
- Follow/execute daily/weekly tasks till completion based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) with ownership and responsibility
Required Experience and Skills
- Masters degree in Medical Genetics/ Cancer Cell Biology/ Biotechnology/Zoology/Microbiology with comprehensive knowledge/project in molecular biology, genetics and cancer biology with 1 years of work experience
- Proficiency in communicating and understanding of genetic variant/mutations.
- Basic understanding of genetics in cancer and signaling pathways.
- Good understanding of biological and genomic databases and their annotations (For example: GenBank, RefSeq, dbSNP, COSMIC).
- An enthusiastic "can-do" mentality with skills of being attentive to details, a dedicated team-worker, having good verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience as an experimental scientist in applied science or hands-on experience in oncogenomic diagnostic laboratories is a big plus.
- Experience with open-source bioinformatics tools and publicly available variant databases is a plus
