PIH Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain to join our healthcare team at PIH Health Whittier Hospital.
This full-time, regular / at-will position is integral to providing spiritual support to patients, their loved ones, and staff, regardless of their belief systems.
The Chaplain will serve a diverse community in the Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Gabriel Valley region, encompassing a fully integrated network of hospitals and outpatient facilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for offering spiritual guidance, conducting special rites and rituals, and addressing the spiritual needs of individuals facing illness, hospitalization, and end-of-life situations.
The Chaplain will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care that respects the dignity and beliefs of each person.
Key responsibilities include rapid assessment of complex situations, providing pastoral counseling, leading religious services, and contributing to the education and training of staff and community members.
The Chaplain will also maintain accurate electronic medical documentation and participate in continuous professional development.
This role requires a sensitive and empathetic individual with a strong commitment to spiritual care in a healthcare setting.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of spiritual, psychosocial, psychological, and bioethical issues related to illness, hospitalization, palliative care, hospice, grief / bereavement, death, and dying
- Excellent interpersonal and pastoral counseling skills
- Ability to build rapport, trust, and credibility with patients / families and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues
- Exemplary personal responsibility and follow-through with effective time management and boundary maintenance
- Clear and concise communication in English, both verbally and in writing
- Experience in public speaking / prayers and leading religious services
- Designing and delivering training events and education programs
- Competency with electronic medical documentation software and Microsoft Office
Required Experience
- Board Certified Chaplain, or in the process of achieving board certification within one year of employment
- Annual continuing education and maintaining standing with accrediting professional association / organization
- Experience working in an ecumenical / interfaith environment
- Multi-cultural awareness, humility, and curiosity
- LA City fire card within 6 months of employment (PIH Good Samaritan Only)
- Strongly preferred bilingual Spanish and English fluency
- More than five years of experience working in a hospital and / or hospice setting
