POSITION DESCRIPTION
To provide personal assistance and care to Pitzer Lodge residents as indicated by the activities of daily living to enable the residents to remain independent longer. The Pitzer LVN/Charge Nurse oversees the work of the Aides, responds to independent residents as indicated by the computerized call light system, and works with the entire Pitzer team to build a sense of team and create an environment based on the needs of the residents always providing support, friendship and kindness to all residents and team members
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist residents in physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Report concerns to supervisor(s) verbally or by use of resident log, charting pertinent facts, unusual events, illnesses, and injuries.
Use observation skills and provide body checks. Up-date plan of care as needed.
Set-up and offer medication by checking names and times carefully of medicines.
Provide for continuity of care by giving complete accurate shift reports to oncoming staff.
Provide assignments to Pitzer Aides and oversee their work.
Respond to, assist and assess the needs of residents in the independent community through the computerized call light system.
Complete incident reports with appropriate communication to the Director of Wellness/Clinical Services or Clinical Nurse regarding Pitzer Lodge and independent residents or any unusual occurrences.
Monitor physical and safety hazards of the Pitzer buildings, locking and unlocking doors as necessary.
Assist in creating a homelike atmosphere by building and maintaining strong, meaningful relationships with the residents and greeting guests and visitors in a professional manner.
Assist residents in the dining room during meals checking to be sure all residents scheduled for meals are present.
Review assignments prior to leaving the shift to assure call lights are within reach and residents are safe and comfortable.
Possess a valid, current CA Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.
Maintain a current first aid card.
Experience in nursing supervision or geriatric nursing preferred.
