POSITION OVERVIEW
:
The director of finance is a creative and strategic thinker with a clear vision of the role finance plays in achieving organizational objectives. The director of finance is a transformer within the organization, partnering with agency leaders in shaping and executing future strategy around financial, accounting, and physical infrastructure. They have experience planning and managing organizational change in a highly complex, entrepreneurial organization.

As part of the executive team the Director of Finance will oversee Departmental financial policies and fiscal operations and strategically lead the Department's financial management techniques and practices with a high level of integrity, a strong sense of urgency, an accomplished financial background, effective interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem solving skills, and strategic thinking capacity.

Primary Responsibilities
(Essential Functions)

Strategy and Thought Leadership
  • Provide subject matter expertise
  • Set priorities and departmental vision
  • Lead strategic innovation that straddles the entire agency
  • Recognized internally and externally as a thought leader

Operations and Outcomes
  • Analyze data, trends, & needs agency wide
  • Define goals that aim to financial success throughout the agency
  • Create processes systems to drive change
  • Assess report impact to inform strategy

People and Community Development
  • Provide leadership that inspires program staff to embrace and implement PUC’s mission, vision and values in their work
  • Assist in formulating the organization’s future direction and supporting the goals of the Board of Directors and President/CEO
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic organizational goals
  • Develop and implement operational best practices within PUC’s multi-site organization
  • Report risk issues to the President/CEO and Board of Directors
  • Facilitate relationships between people, departments and organizations
  • Inspire action
  • Model culture
  • Lead and motivate the finance team

Financial Management
  • Supervise and lead the day-to-day operations of the finance team
  • Forecasting, modeling and analysis of current and projected financials
  • Foster organizational focus through signposting – helping to guide decisions and prioritization
  • Manage an agile infrastructure – systems and process that support an innovative fluid culture
  • Collaborate with agency leaders on financing strategies for multiple social enterprises
  • Manage budgeting processes
  • Oversee financial information and report financial results
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the organization’s risk profile
  • Manage and lead auditing process
  • Monitor cash balances and create cash forecasts

Desired Attributes

  • Experience in financial management within a multi-site organization and complex budgets
  • Experience with a variety of donor sources including individuals, family foundations, corporate foundations, United Way, and government funding
  • Experience with state and federal grants; community development financing strongly desired.
  • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience for non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn Sage Intacct.
