The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
This position is GRANT FUNDED and continued employment is contingent upon available funding.
JOB SUMMARY
Perform general labor and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work under basic supervision.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform general clean-up duties including trash, litter, and debris removal from parking areas, driveways, grass areas, sidewalks, and other assigned areas.
- Perform general landscaping and grounds maintenance work in watering, mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, cultivation, fertilization, watering, and pruning operations.
- Operate lawn mowers, hand tools, and other equipment associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities.
- Install and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, and other landscaping materials.
- Identify situations requiring attention, such as vandalism, inoperative equipment, or other issues.
- Perform minor maintenance repair work to lighting and irrigation systems as well as repairs on equipment and tools as required.
- Perform various manual tasks in general support of department projects including equipment set up such as folding tables, chairs, or similar objects.
- Inspect and clean equipment and identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Clean and sanitize public areas and perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Supervise Inmates when needed to assist with grounds or other duties permitted.(position will be required to attend a training for supervising inmates and pass criminal background screening.)
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- One (1) year of experience in gardening, care and maintenance of lawns.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Arizona State Driver's License.
- Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and gardening methods, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of motorized equipment such as push and riding mowers, string trimmers, edgers, and hedge shears.
- Knowledge of proper usage of hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, picks, shovels, spades, rakes, loppers, saws, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of irrigation techniques using sprinklers, hoses, and flooding methods.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to follow and maintain safety standards.
- Ability to safely using tools, equipment, and chemicals.
- Ability to communicate orally with co-workers and the general public in a one-to-one setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the ability to crouch, feel, grasp, handle, reach, kneel, lift, pull, push, perform repetitive motion, stoop, stand, walk, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.
