The Pine Barrens Tribune has an opening for an on-call, part-time general assignment/features reporter to report on occasion for the newspaper.
The successful candidate is committed to uncovering and reporting the facts, with integrity above all else, and must be a dynamic communicator who can write clearly, cleanly, and accurately, as well as strives to deliver impactful journalism that seeks to hold authority accountable.
Assignments could include anything from law enforcement and courts, to K-12 education, local, county and state government, recreation, elections and breaking news, while features could profile leaders, community members, businesses, organizations or upcoming functions of significance.
The successful candidate will have superior reporting skills, the ability to provide timely explanatory pieces in AP-style, as well as compelling features/profiles of key people or organizations in the news.
The successful candidate will also be available to attend community events and meetings, and have knowledge of the area. Applicants must also be willing to work nights and weekends.
We’re preferably looking for an experienced print reporter/print veteran who has strong command of AP style and interviewing, and is essentially a newshound interested in hard news.
However, we will consider a very talented, committed recent journalism graduate who has strong command of AP-style, a mastery of interviewing and the inverted pyramid, experience rounding out stories with depth and context, a keen interest in government and politics, as well as community reporting – and overall closely follows politics/regional affairs, as well as who can provide clean copy.
This is a position that requires journalism fundamentals, such as on-scene/telephone interviewing, unabated accuracy and adherence to deadlines. The successful candidate must be open to having their copy edited, though should thoroughly review their own copy before filing.

· Journalism or communications degree, or equivalent/relevant experience
· At least two years of reporting experience
· Strong command of basic journalism principles and AP Style
· Exceptional reporting, writing and interviewing skills
