What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Attendant position at PINE BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT?

The job of Bus Attendant was established for the purpose/s of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special needs students during transport to and from school and/or special activities, ensuring orderly entering and leaving of bus patrons and ensuring the safety and orderly transportation of students K-12.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Must possess the ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively
Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
Ability to work well with children that possess disabilities
Lifts and carries students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs
Supervises students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street
Takes children into building and helps them find their destination
Learns and adapts to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
Manages student behavior and reports student discipline problems to appropriate administrator
Communicates with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus
Becomes familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to drive
Maintains an updated route schedule
Supervises the use of seat belts, harnesses or car seats by students
Follows emergency procedures and helps driver administer first aid, if necessary
Operates equipment according to established safety procedures
Follows established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.
Becomes familiar with and follows procedures established by the transportation and special education offices
Assists driver in keeping bus clean and orderly
Works irregular hours as needed
