Purpose
The General Maintenance employee is a jack-of-all-trades, with knowledge of maintenance procedures and basic tools and appliances. To excel in this position, you must be an outstanding problem-solver with exceptional communication and organizational skills.
Essential Job Functions
Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
Utilizes the facilities management software system
Documents building surfaces for cracks in walls, floor coverings (that need replacing) or other building deficiencies
Performs general masonry and other such building structural and finish surface work
Welds with electric arc or gas welder
Assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems such as the landscaping irrigation system and swimming pool systems
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
Reports unsafe conditions and building/equipment damage to Supervisor and/or Facilities Director
Assists in Crisis Management Operations
Applies protective and decorative paint, varnish, lacquer and/or related material to interior and exterior surface of buildings, furniture, equipment and other structures
Washes, scrapes, sands, torches and/or smooths, interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying other related materials
Cleans equipment, paint mixing areas, and work area
Operates compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment
Operates heavy lift equipment including scissors, and boom swing stage to heights up to 80 feet
Erects various types of scaffolding, staging ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area
Determines appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with school personnel
Prepares and implements line stripping layouts streets and parking lots
Identifies and handles safely the appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials and other hazardous materials
Has knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and application techniques common to the painting trade
Demonstrates ability to manage frequent interruptions; varying and unpredictable situations; demands due to multiple calls and inquiries
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Experience and Qualifications |
Minimum 5 years’ work experience in general maintenance Minimum 5 years’ work experience as a Painter. Must be capable of climbing ladders and working from a high lift or scaffolding. Must be capable of operating a forklift and any other heavy equipment necessary to complete a given task. Must be able to use a computer to generate work orders/retrieve work orders |
