Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the Quality Assessment & Improvement Program in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Director of Nursing and assure that the highest degree of quality resident care and safety can be maintained at all times.

Delegation of Authority

As the Quality Assessment & Improvement/Risk Management Coordinator you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Job Functions

Administrative and Surveillance:

  • Plan, organize, and direct risk management plan along with Quality Assessment and Improvement Program and activities.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, coordinate, and direct the Quality Assessment & Improvement/risk management plan to protect and enhance the quality of resident care, in accordance with current rules, regulation, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Evaluate programs and make changes as necessary to improve programs and assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate revised plans and changes to facility management to maintain awareness.
  • Establish and maintain tracking systems for recommendations of groups involved in quality assessment & assurance/risk management and loss prevention.
  • Develop and implement appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies, serious incidents, and claims.
  • Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting to the administrator and the Director of Nursing as required.
  • Represent the facility at and participate in meetings as directed.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator and or the Director of Nursing, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the Quality Assessment & Improvement program.
  • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of the overall Quality Assessment & Improvement/management program for the protection of the institution and its staff from fortuitous loss.
  • Assure that safety policy and procedures are enforced with corrective action as identified.
  • Oversees the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports as directed by Administrator or Director of Nursing

Committee Functions:

  • Serve as chairperson of the Quality Assessment & Assurance/Risk Management Committee.
  • Quality Assessment & Assurance/Risk Management Coordinator monthly reviews assessments, data collected by departments, safety of the residents for quality care and improvements identified by action plans.
  • Serve or participate in and attend the following facility committees
  • Report (daily)
  • Quality Assurance/Safety Committee meeting (quarterly)
  • Weekly QAPI
  • Assist other committees and departments in the developing action tactics in loss prevention, quality improvement, monitoring tools, criteria and standards, assessment methodologies and the evaluation and priority concerns impacting on resident care and safety.
  • Serve as liaison among committees and/or departments with focus of quality improvement and risk management.

Staff Development:

  • Participate in programs designed for in-service education, on the job training and orientation of the quality assessment & assurance/risk management plan for the newly hired personnel and then annually for all staff regarding effective means of eliminating or handling risks.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.
  • Assist in identifying areas of effective means of eliminating or handling risks and opportunities for improvement.

Budget and Planning Functions:

  • Provides data and information to the Director of Nursing and/or the Administrator as requested.
  • Keeps abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to administration to facilitate the quality improvements and/or risk recommendations.

Resident Rights:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Knock before entering a resident’s room.
  • Ensure that all staff is knowledgeable of resident rights and responsibilities, including the right of refusal.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the facility.
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with physician, resident, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays, on- call rotation when necessary, as well as in other positions as needed.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Core hours Monday – Friday 8a-4:30p
  • Hours and shifts may vary as working alongside the director and attending meetings is required
  • On call hours are required

Education Requirements

Must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.

Experience

Sufficient previous experience in clinical health care including direct experience in risk management and quality assurance & assessment.

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action in a timely fashion.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of risk identification, evaluation, and treatment in the facility.
  • Must possess the ability to oversee investigations of all serious incidents and claims.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., in relationship to risk reduction and quality improvement.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and staff.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices relating to the control of claim costs and quality improvement.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental, emotional, and physical stress of the position.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be willing to perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s body fluids.
