Located in San Antonio, The Pineapple School is a child development center and preschool that provides Spanish language and cultural immersion for children six weeks to five years of age.
We are looking for candidates who truly enjoy and appreciate young children and have good verbal and written communication skills in Spanish. There are great opportunities for growth within the school for professional candidates who are looking for a life-time career in teaching.
Duties will consist of:
- Preparing dynamic lesson plans and executing a developmentally appropriate program in line with the goals and philosophy of The Pineapple School;
- Teaching children in the Spanish language and encouraging their development;
- Ensuring the classroom is in compliance of Texas Minimum Standards at all times;
- Conducting individual assessments for students, maintaining individual portfolios to support these findings and communicating this information to the parents;
- Interacting with parents on a daily basis, regularly reporting positive observations of each child; Leading mealtime activities and assisting children with personal hygiene;
- Utilizing Conscious Discipline strategies to promote cooperation, constructive problem solving and academic success in the classroom;
- Maintaining a safe, clean and organized environment inside and outside the classroom (this includes taking out the trash; proper sanitizing of tables, counters, bathrooms, and toys; and organizing drawers, cabinets and shelves);
- Engaging children in a playful learning environment both indoors and outdoors (outdoor playtime consists of two scheduled 45-minute periods each day);
- Gathering materials and supplies ahead of time for planned classroom activities;
- Planning and carrying out an exposition at the close of each “project” that exhibits the concepts and skills the students learned throughout the course of said “project”;
- Preparing crafts and activities for and participating in special events and celebrations such as Easter and Día de los Muertos;
- Attending staff meetings, training events and workshops, including a monthly staff meeting in the evening.
Qualifications
- 100% fluent in Spanish, verbally and written; Proficient in English
- Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field)
- At least two years’ experience working with preschool-aged children and as a Lead Teacher
- Stability, intelligence and professionalism
- Raised in or otherwise have extensive experience living in a Spanish speaking culture outside of the United States, typically either in Mexico and/or Central and South America (preferred)
