JOB SUMMARY
Review and interpret project scope documents and apply moderately complex engineering, math, and architectural principles to generate shop and fabrication drawings using computer aided design (CAD) software. Participate in formulating design strategy and assist in solving issues related to the design of building envelopes, fenestration, and other interior and exterior architectural elements including but not limited to unitized curtain walls, entrances, punched windows, coping and interior partitions. Mentor and coach lesser experienced employees and support Production Control, Shop, and Field personnel during the manufacturing and installation of designed assemblies and components.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Design
-
Reads and interprets project specifications, architectural and structural drawings, bid documents, other project documentation, and applies information to project assignments.

Strategizes and creates designs of basic complexity including assemblies and components using CAD software.

Applies moderately complex engineering and architectural principles to all types of structures (e.g., poured concrete, steel, etc.).

Reviews structural calculations issued by subcontracted Professional Engineers and properly revises shop and fabrication drawings to match requirements noted.

Applies company and industry standards and procedures to assigned work.
Shop and Fabrication Drawings
-
Generates and checks shop drawings (embeds, elevations, plans, sections, and details).

Generates and checks fabrication drawings of assemblies and components.

Revises redlined drawings.
Software
-
Utilizes RMS, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Revit, as required.
Problem Solving
-
Supports Production Control, Shop, and Field personnel during manufacturing and installation of designed assemblies and components, and investigates manufacturing and installation related issues per direct supervisor's instruction.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering OR Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Design and Drafting or related field and 5 years’ relevant fenestration drafting experience OR 7 years’ relevant fenestration drafting experience.

Experience reading and understanding architectural and construction specifications and bid documents.

Experience reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings i.e., dimensions, symbols, types of lines, scales and views, including elevations, plans, and sections.

Familiar with basic engineering and architectural principles in all structures (e.g., poured concrete, steel etc.) and with elements and symbols contained in blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

Experience reviewing system calculations and capable of using trigonometry and basic math functions to solve moderately complex problems.

Expresses thoughts, ideas, and technical information clearly both verbally and in writing.

Well-developed drafting and mechanical drawing skills and has experience applying drafting standards.

Works well under the pressure of time constraints and changing expectations.

Proficient using AutoCAD; Autodesk Inventor and Revit experienced preferred.
