JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma
2. Three years' experience in Environmental Services, preferably in a healthcare environment
3. Good verbal and written communication skills
JOB RELATIONSHIPS (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)
Communicates and coordinates with peers regarding day-to-day activities. Communicates well with patients, visitors and other departments. Interacts with individuals at all levels of the organization to fulfill the Environmental Service’s objective to provide a clean and safe work environment. Adjusts patient interaction and/or treatment to match each patient’s age-specific developmental, educational, or other related needs.
JOB DUTIES (* denotes “essential function”)
1. Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
2. Dust furniture, woodwork, equipment and dust mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in utility rooms and bathrooms.
3. Wet mopped rooms, halls, stairways and public areas.
4. Cleans vents, fans and other equipment using vacuum machines.
5. Cleans fixtures, tops or windows, door frames and high areas using a ladder as required.
6. Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials including medical waste.
7. Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
8. Removes waste and soiled linens from work area and places in specified bags or containers.
9. Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
10. Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls of bathroom.
11. Remains professional and tactful while responding to environmental “on demand” needs
12. Assists Patients/Visitor/Staff as needed.
13. Assists in the enforcement of hospital/departmental policies and procedures
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Environment/Hazards: May be assigned to use sharp instruments and electrical equipment. A job requires walking long distances, stooping, bending, twisting, pushing and lifting for most of the working hours. Position requires medium work that occasionally involves lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Ability to climb ladder or stairs if necessary. Frequent stooping, crouching, standing and kneeling are also required. May be exposed to situations that could be hazardous to one health. Requires ability to work flexible hours, days, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays.
