POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs daily review of facility for pick-up, packing, and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste generated by manufacturing operations. Inspects and maintains the Hazardous Waste containment areas for compliance with Federal and State environmental regulations. Performs safety audits to review safe work practices, enforcement of company safety policies, equipment guarding and lockout/tagout requirements in all manufacturing work areas. Periodic monitoring / recording of various environmental control panel readings, and other environmental measurements using appropriate equipment. Preparation / loading of hazardous and non-hazardous manufacturing waste for shipment to certified waste disposal contractors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintain current knowledge of Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) 29, 40, and 49, as related to the safe handling, processing, compaction, labeling, and storage of hazardous waste for shipments.
Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections of equipment, above ground storage tanks, fuel trucks, containments, chemical holding sites, hazardous waste accumulations areas, and stormwater system for regulatory compliance on department forms.
Daily checks and pickup of 55-gallon drums, 275-gallon totes, and cubic yard boxes of hazardous and non-hazardous waste using a forklift or pallet jack. Responsible for proper labeling and storage of all regulated and non-regulated waste, and lab packing expired or spent chemicals.
Periodically prepare for shipment and load hazardous waste onto trucks for shipment to hazardous waste processing facility.
Test and inspect safety showers and eyewash stations on a routine basis. Make basic repairs and adjustments as needed.
Perform and record safety manual audits.
Perform daily safety observations.
Calibration of pH probes, air sampling devices, and industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
Perform hazardous waste sampling as needed and coordinate with the laboratory for analysis.
Pump out, clean, and maintain containment areas as needed.
Inspect and replenish spill kits.
Assist with first responder and first aid kit supply replenishment as needed.
Inspect and test AEDs monthly. Coordinate purchase of replacement pads.
Coordinate, purchase, and install/remove signage as needed.
Coordinate fire extinguisher inspections and replacement.
Monitor EAM for new safety related requests and respond in a timely manner.
Respond to hazardous waste, oil, and chemical spills in accordance with applicable regulations.
Perform general safety inspections and hazard assessments of work areas to reinforce safe work practices, identify unsafe acts, review proper machine guarding, lockout/tagout requirements, and compliance with company safety policies.
Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database and assist team members with locating and obtaining information from SDSs as needed.
Use computer to prepare electronic forms, labels, and other EHS documents.
Maintain knowledge of all Environmental Health and Safety training topics and procedures.
Conduct employee respiratory protection training and fit tests.
Conduct employee forklift training and practical hands-on forklift training.
Print and laminate golf-cart, forklift, tug, and other powered industrial truck certification cards.
Enroll team members in required training. Conduct new hire and annual refresher training as needed.
Assist with PPE distribution and supplies.
Perform periodic neutralization of wash tanks in accordance with the City Wastewater Permit.
Maintain knowledge of Emergency Action Plan procedures for fires, chemical spills, hurricane preparedness, and other emergencies, and assist with emergency response.
Participate in accident investigations as needed.
Perform industrial hygiene sampling (including hexavalent chromium, mold, dust, noise, etc.)
Participate in safety mentor committee meetings.
Provide support to implement safety initiatives and corrective actions.
Act as a first responder when the occupational health nurse is not available.
Other duties related to safety and environmental as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Forklift certification, basic computer and math skills, must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. Initial and recurrent annual training in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, and OSHA 30 Hour training required within 90 days of employment.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE: Experience working in a manufacturing environment highly desired. One-year of experience operating a forklift preferred.
