Loan Coordinator - Student Financial Assistance

Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Loan Coordinator in Student Financial Assistance. The primary function of the Loan Coordinator is to oversee the federal and private loan processes, ensuring their accuracy and efficiency. This role involves promptly identifying and correcting any discrepancies or issues that may arise.

Duties and Responsibilities

55% - Federal Loan Management

• Analyze and revise federal loan data, identifying and resolving pending irregularities promptly.
• Stay a breast of industry developments and changes in loan processing software and proactively implement necessary changes to optimize efficiency and accuracy in loan coordination processes.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal regulations and financial aid processes and utilize this expertise to drive process improvement and maintain compliance.
• Identify potential over-award situations and make necessary adjustments to maintain compliance with federal guidelines.
• Generate daily reports to identify and correct loan discrepancies to ensure month end reconciliation.
• Monitor session-based loans and facilitate clear communication with faculty and students throughout all stages of the loan life cycle.
• Execute year-end federal loan closeout procedures to guarantee accurate reconciliation of loan accounts, compliance with federal regulation and timely submission of reports to relevant authorities.
• Provide loan counseling to students and parents regarding the federal loan process.

30% - Private/Alternative Loan Processing

• Oversee and assign tasks to appropriate staff member(s) during peak periods to facilitate timely processing.
• Manage the certification, disbursement and revision of private/alternative loans.
• Analyze and monitor loan data to identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
• Produce and analyze daily reports to identify and correct loan discrepancies to ensure month end reconciliation.
• Conduct personalized counseling to students and parents on third party private loans.
• Explore and implement improvement opportunities for ongoing processes through third party system.

10% - Team Collaboration and Process Improvement

• Participate in the PSU Student Financial Planning implementation team to identify and implement best practices aimed at enhancing functions for optimal efficiency.
• Coordinate with Cashier’s, Registrar, Admission, and Academic Advising offices on student loan matters. Educate and update as needed.
• Verify the accuracy of loan data on the Common Origination & Disbursement web site, apply corrections as required.
• Create reports using Oracle Analytics.
• Lead efforts to streamline and enhance the efficiency of student loan processing and financial aid delivery.
• Attend annua lfederal and state training opportunities to stay up-to-date on current regulatory issues and changes.

5% - Default Management

• Oversee the monitoring of student loan default management processes to maintain compliance to federal regulations and university policies.
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures aimed at assessing and mitigating default risks and promoting responsible borrowing practices among students.

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience at Hire - 

• Bachelor’s Degree 

Preferred Education and Experience - 

• Experience with Oracle products is highly desirable 
• Three years of experience in a Student Financial Assistance office or in a university setting 
• Three years of customer service orientation with a commitment to higher education and working with students

Salary Range: $39,000-$42,000

Job Type:  Unclassified

Appointment Duration:  12 months

Work Schedule:  Full Time – Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
